Bird is in the air

By the time this message is posted we will be in the air heading towards our destination.

It has only been a few days since arriving at our deployment station and already my eyes are opened with a better sense of clarity than ever been before.

Since arriving, we have attended a few farewells and already my thought process has been changing almost daily. As a writer my job is only to observe procedures and write about it, but instead something else seems to be happening. I am finding myself thinking of my own brothers, nephews and friends, who have done this so many times and I was not there to say good-bye. Watching these Marines holding on to loved ones, saying their good-byes, and last minute kisses, my heart went out to them and as the buses rolled away, along with the wives, sweethearts and parents, I found myself getting emotional.

Now it is our turn to be the one's to leave. There will be no one there to say good-bye to us except these very special Marines who have been taking care of us these last few days. LT & Gunny thanks for taking such good care of us. To our Drivers, Thanks for making us feel right at home here and for being available to us when we needed you.

Until I am able to post again, just know that all is well with us.
