It was March of 1966 when students revolted against the establishment on every level, and gathered to protest at the drop of a dime for any reason. Why would they revolt, you might ask. It was because President Johnson announced he would be sending more troops to a place called Vietnam, thus escalating the war. Vietnam was a fight entered into to help the South Vietnamese government and its people defend their freedom against North Vietnamese guerilla insurgents terrorizing their fellow citizens for control of their country. American students who did not understand international politics, the South East Asia Treaty Agreement signed after World War II, our pledge to help defend smaller countries who could not defend themselves, and what could be lost here at home as a result, gathered to protest against something they knew nothing about.
Fearful of having to pick up a rifle and be shot at, they took to the streets and began protesting the war. Many were pacifists, dissenters, or drug addicts resisting the draft, but the majority of them were the children of those of privilege who were afraid to be called upon to defend the very country that gave them the riches they enjoyed daily. Among them were former service members who returned home from war disgruntled and thus opposed it, claiming it was an illegal rule of authority. As time passed the war heated up, and those who were searching to score acid, pot, pills and other drugs joined in the protest. Mothers who were grieving the loss of their sons and daughters wanted someone to blame and thus joined the protest against the war, further dishonoring their memory. They carried flag-draped boxes which represented those who had given the ultimate sacrifice. Protestors became extremely confrontational and anarchy began. This was the beginning of America Unraveling...
Today history is repeating itself once again. This time it is educated individuals who are fueling the fires of the past and gathering once again to revolt against something they do not understand – terrorism. We currently find ourselves facing a changing time, but unfortunately we have not learned the lessons of the past and history is repeating itself once again. Just like during the Vietnam War, service members returning from war are now being disrespected by their fellow Americans:
o Soldiers beginning spit upon and beaten up by fellow Americans;
o Soldiers not wanting to wear their uniforms on Metro trains and while traveling;
o Desecration of War Memorials by fellow Americans who know nothing about
Duty,Honor or Sacrifice;
o Soldier funerals disrupted by Americans making political statements;
o College Officials allowing students to disrespect pro-American speakers;
o Eroded support of the general public toward the war effort;
o Military feeling as though they are a closed society once again;
o No one is asking the service members how they feel about fighting this war,
and the purpose for which they are fighting;
o No one has asked the service member's what differences we have made thus far;
o The media is once again measuring the war based on the number of casualties
and using their tag line of “If it bleeds it leads”;
o No one is controlling the media’s propaganda campaign for political reasons;
o “Sick” soldiers being touted as the norm, while “normal” soldiers are simply
drinking the Pentagon Kool-Aid;
o Politicians calling soldiers Nazi’s and Terrorists;
o World community against US policy abroad; and
o The use of the term “Political Correctness” (which has a communist origin) to
control the thoughts of those they wish to control.
At a time when our country should be uniting our energies in support of those who are fighting the terrorists who attacked our country, including those on the battlefield fighting the enemies who are fueling the fires of terrorist activities on the streets of Iraq and Afghanistan. Instead we are again directing this energy against each other, instead of the enemy at hand.
As a result, history is repeating itself right under our noses and it is time we stand together against those who do not understand the perils of the current enemy. If we lose the fight against terrorism, we will lose our country’s values, liberty, inner strength, and the very existence and foundation on which this country was founded. Our enemies are capitalizing on our ignorance.
In January of this year a similar group of protestors, mirroring the past, gathered in Washington, DC to protest the war in Iraq. They gathered for the purpose of making their voices heard before Congress, but they made one major mistake – they defaced the steps of the Capitol with their anti-war messages. Those that carried out this criminal act did so with malice and were not interested in freedom of speech, lawful assembly, or the liberties this country affords them. Their actions were strictly preformed for personal gain. Like an enemy of war, they too manipulated the media to achieve their fifteen minutes of fame and bring attention to their cause. This type of destruction of public property is a crime, yet nothing was done to prevent or stop it. Freedom of speech and expression is a privilege, not a license to destroy.
On March 17, 2007, this same group plans a return trip to our Nation's Capitol for a march on the Pentagon. Talk about history repeating itself! They plan to gather at the veteran’s memorials which are located on the Mall in Washington, DC, and proceed to the Pentagon from there. We have it on good authority that they plan to deface these monuments during their march, especially the Vietnam Wall Memorial, to send a message to Congress. For further information about their protest march, I am providing links below for educational purposes only. Please know I am not supporting their cause, nor am I trying to promote it.

If you are a patriotic American and/or a Veteran of any branch of the Armed Forces who is appalled at the conduct of those protestors who disrespected all Americans by defacing American property, and you do not want history to repeat itself, I encourage you to go to www.gatheringofeagles.org or www.unitedAmericanpatriots.org and make your arrangements to join those of us who are willing to defend the monuments that represent our fallen American brothers and sisters.
Let us stand together and have our voices heard once and for all that Military families and the Veterans who have served honorably to defend the rights of the Constitution, will not allow criminal acts that deface our sacred monuments that represent our families, brothers, and fellow Americans!
"Without Freedom of Thought, there can be no such Thing as Wisdom; and no such Thing as publick Liberty, without Freedom of Speech; which is the Right of every Man... This sacred Privilege is so essential to free Governments, that the Security of Property, and the Freedom of Speech always go together; and in those wretched Countries where a Man cannot call his Tongue his own, he can scarce call any Thing else his own. Whoever would overthrow the Liberty of a Nation, must begin by subduing the Freeness of Speech; a Thing terrible to Publick Traytors."
Benjamin Franklin writing as Silence Dogood, The New-England Courant, July 9, 1722
