Cats and Christmas Trees

Cats and Christmas Trees

The holidays are great entertainment for animals in our home, especially at Christmas, time if there's a cat in the house. With all those colorful lights, dangling ornaments to play with, it's a fun fest for their imagination. The major concern you should have is whether or not they will chew throw those electrical wires, or swallow something off those ornaments. Not to mention having fun trying to climb your tree when you're not home, or hiding behind the tree like in the above picture. Yeah, they look so cute hiding behind that tree, or snuggling up with those gifts under the tree; but your festive motif is also a hazard for them and you.

Oh the possibilities are endless. So here's how you deal with it. Don't be afraid to sprinkle some festive colored red pepper flakes around the base of your tree. Cats hate the smell and taste of it, and so does your dog. If you're concerned about the cat climbing the tree, try spritzing your tree with a little lysol before you decorate it. It won't hurt the tree, but it will prevent them from climbing on it. Same goes for your electrical cords, spray them down with either Lysol, or defuse a dozen of those red pepper flakes in a spray bottle and use that to spritz over the cords. Your animals will stay away from the tree and cords until the holiday is over.
