Your driving down the street and you happen to glance down at your dashboard and realize you’re low on fuel, so you pull into the first gas station you come upon. As you drive into the station you notice the price board is different from the other day, the price has gone up substantially by a few dollars, but you are in crisis mode with hardly any fuel left in your vehicle, so you have to pay the price for the gas. Little did you know is that if you monitored the gas station pricing board, it seems that the owners have been changing the price of a gallon of gas on daily basis and haven’t had a fuel truck come by in a week. So why is the price secret behind Gas Prices changing? Well, it appears that the price is being changed based on the Opec daily oil price board and not the contracted price the station owner is being charged per gallon. In other words, the station owner is gauging his customers and taking advantage of them with every gallon being purchased. What consumers don’t know is this little-known fact about the consumer laws. If a gas station is changing prices based on OPEC daily price board that is totally illegal because they’re supposed to charge what the oil distributor is charging them and not change the price board until the next delivery of fuel. If a station owner changed the price board on a daily basis the consumer can call the Attorney General’s office for their state and file a complaint which will cause the station owner to be fined if they are found guilty of price gouging and taking advantage of their customers. So, pay attention to the date you see a fuel truck delivering fuel to your local gas station and most importantly, pay attention to the price on the price board to ensure the owner isn’t changing the price based on the Opec Board.
