Over the years I’ve known many a teacher who have had to pay
out of their own pocket for classroom supplies that their school does not
provide, such as copy paper, chalk, books, and other necessary supplies that
the school or educational administration fails to supply. When I’ve asked why
the school doesn’t apply for federal grants that are offered to school across
the country the answer I always get is the same – no one seems to know how to fill
out the paperwork and it seems the administrators don’t want to hire someone to
do the grants for their school district.
What school administrators don’t understand is that once they’ve filled
out the grant application, submitted it and gained the grant applied for all
they have to do is reapply the following year using the same paperwork but
change the yearly figures accordingly.
If you’re a teacher and want to learn what grants are
available to schools around the country, use this link to explore the
possibilities. https://www.grants.gov/learn-grants/grant-making-agencies/department-of-education.html
Unfortunately, what many don’t realize is this, when the
funds are not used within a couple of years they revert back to Congress for
redistribution and they turn those unwanted dollars into pork for special
interest groups in other areas of the federal budget. So please, teachers, I’d
rather see the money go to your classrooms and the students you teach than to
allow Congressional representatives get their hands on those funds again and
misuse them for their special interest groups. So, learn how to file for grants
and gain those funds for your school district.
